These ancient chalk formations rise out of the prairie like nature’s own stone cathedral—quiet, surreal, and totally unexpected in the middle of farm country.
Sometimes the best stops are the ones you never saw coming.

2013 – An Easter I Will Not Forget The AT calle 2013 – An Easter I Will Not Forget

The AT called, and I answered. During my trek, I woke early to another cold, rainy, nasty morning and hit the trail. What felt like a few hours later, I approached a parking area. You couldn’t miss the commotion—laughter, conversation, and the smell of amazing food hit you before you even saw the group. Pictured is the crowd gathered under awnings at a parking area.

As I walked past, someone came up to me and said, “Come get some breakfast!” This would go on to be one of the biggest trail angel experiences I had during my trip.

What you can’t see in the photo is the incredible spread of food.

This group has been coming together every Easter for 22 years to cook a magnificent breakfast for AT hikers. A six-egg omelet made to order, bacon, sausage, and of course, OJ—an incredible reprieve from the weather and the previous week of slogging along the cold trail. Spirits were lifted, laughter echoed under the awnings, and it was hard to leave and continue on that day.

Hard to believe that chapter of life was 12 years ago. IYKYK—and if not, grab a spot around a campfire sometime and I’ll tell you all about that past life chapter.
I was fairly young when I first visited Tucson AZ. I was fairly young when I first visited Tucson AZ. We visited Old Tucson, Bisbee, and Tombstone. We even made the drive to visit the Longhorn Grill. Such an Iconic entrance to walk through the skull to go feast on some amazing steaks.

I visited again many years later when I lived in Tucson and sadly it had been shut down and looked abandoned. Love to hear it is back in business again.

The Longhorn Grill & Saloon in Amado, AZ
Opened in the 1970s, this legendary spot just south of Tucson is known for its massive longhorn skull entrance — a true roadside icon. Over the years, it’s been a steakhouse, biker bar, and even sat empty for a while. In 2018, it was brought back to life and now serves up classic Southwest fare with plenty of character.

Old-school charm, revived.

Ross Castle is a 15th-century tower house sitting right on the edge of Lough Leane in Killarney National Park. It’s surrounded by stunning views of the lake and mountains and has a ton of history tied to the O’Donoghue clan, who originally built it.

There’s even a legend about O’Donoghue’s ghost still wandering around the grounds. If you’re nearby, it’s worth checking out—whether you’re exploring the castle itself or taking a boat to Innisfallen Island, it’s a pretty unique spot.

Old Head of Kinsale is a stunning headland with cliffs, ocean views, and a lighthouse that’s been standing for over 300 years. It’s also home to one of the world’s most breathtaking golf courses, perched right on the edge of the Atlantic. Whether you’re into golf, coastal walks, or just soaking up the history (it’s near the Lusitania wreck site), it’s a must-see if you’re in the Kinsale area.
