What is Wander the Road?
Wander the Road is a travel blog focused on road trips, national parks, ghost towns, roadside attractions, and backroads across the US. Every post is based on a place I’ve actually been: real trip reports, honest planning guides, and photos from the road.
Who writes this site?
My name is Adam. I’m a road tripper based in the Midwest who spends as much time as possible exploring the country’s lesser-known corners. You can read more on the About Adam page.
How often do you post?
There’s no rigid publishing schedule. I post when I have something worth sharing: a new trip report, a place worth knowing about, or a tip that would have saved me time on the road.
The Content
Are these places you’ve actually visited?
Yes, always. I don’t write about places I haven’t been. Everything on this site comes from personal experience.
Do your trip reports cover current conditions?
I note the date of my visit in every post. Conditions at national parks, ghost towns, and remote areas can change, so I always recommend checking with the managing agency before you go, especially for road access and permits.
How do I find places near a specific state or region?
Head to the Places section and browse by category. Ghost towns, national park units, roadside attractions, and state parks are all organized there.
Can I suggest a place for you to cover?
Sure. Use the Contact page and tell me about it. I can’t promise I’ll get there, but I’m always building the list.
Trip Planning
Can you help me plan my road trip?
The blog is the best resource I have to offer. The Places section and Blog are full of trip reports and planning guides built from my own experiences. I’m not available for one-on-one trip planning, but if you have a specific question, feel free to reach out.
What part of the country do you cover most?
I’m based in the Midwest, so I travel a lot through the Southwest, the Great Plains, and the Southeast, but I go wherever the road takes me. The coverage is spread across the country and growing.
Do you cover international destinations?
Not at this time. The focus is on the United States.
About Winston
Who is Winston?
Winston is my dog and a frequent co-pilot on the road. He’s been to national parks, ghost towns, and a lot of parking lots. You can read more about him on the About Winston page.
Is Winston welcome everywhere you go?
Not everywhere. Pet policies vary widely. National parks generally allow dogs in developed areas but not on trails, while some places have no restrictions at all. I note Winston’s presence in trip reports where it’s relevant, which can help other dog owners plan.
Do you have tips for road tripping with a dog?
It comes up pretty regularly in my travels. Keep an eye on the blog, it’s a topic I’ll be covering in more depth.

How do I keep up with new posts?
The best way is the newsletter. It includes extra trip notes and finds that don’t always make it to the blog. You can sign up at the bottom of the homepage. You can also follow along on Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and Bluesky.
How do I get in touch?
Use the Contact page. I read everything, though response time varies depending on what’s going on.
Can I rely on this site for trip planning?
