National Forests
National forests are where you go to get properly lost. Not the kind of lost that requires a rescue, the kind where you go days without seeing another person and the only thing on the agenda is whatever is around the next bend. The sheer amount of land to explore is staggering and the beauty of it has a different quality than the parks, rawer and less managed and all the more magical for it. These are the national forests I have visited so far and there are many more on the list.
