No need to speculate we have all been here. Nothing sounds exciting, no motivation to do anything, and nothing seems to We all know that “season” that lives between winter and spring. Here in the midwest, it is a time of cloudy grey skies with temperatures that tease with hints of warmth but then dip back down again.
I find myself in a rut and routines while good for me can also become boring and monotonous. Wake up make coffee, work, eat lunch, work, more coffee, couch, bed. While I do my best to mix things up a bit some days you just have no desire to do anything at all. it has taken me a very long time to come to the realization and accept that it is ok to do nothing. You do not need to be productive all the time. My past self would find myself working late into the night on work and personal projects but none of them would get done or go anywhere. Looking back on most of my middle 20s leading into my middle 30s I was this way. I had to always be working on something.
Now I find myself with much smaller goals that are more realistic. Start/finish a book this week, do laundry, and make sure the house is picked up. I do find that having those goals helps, but I also find myself falling into a pattern of needing … ok ok wanting to be productive, and having a project to work towards completion.
I often find I have the greatest desire to be productive when I have no projects and when I have projects I procrastinate the most. While that typically happens year round it becomes more prominent during the winter months.
I do not have any advice on how to fix it or any kind of solution to any of this. I just found myself thinking about it all the other day.
I have found this youtube channel a great source of peace and calm lately. His video style and narration make it easy to just hit play and zone out while enjoying the Italian Alps. I also found it quite interesting where he is located. He is only a couple of hours away from where I lived in the mountains above Torino (Turin). check him out and hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
